I was surprised when the Democrats seemed to suddenly stop using the "weird" label to call out the actions of Trump and his allies in any sort of concerted fashion. As childish as it seemed, it gave Harris a boost in her campaign's early days.
I assume someone in the campaign wanted to focus on what Harris brought to the table, which I guess is nice, but proved less effective. The Dems ignored a gold mine of ammunition against her opponent.
It's just absurd to me how bad the Democrats seem to be at playing politics. I guess they thought they could just ride the "weird" wave all the way to the finish line, but (assuming your assumption is true) they shouldn't have taken any chances on that, especially if they truly believe Trump and his movement to be an existential threat.
Honestly, if a conspiracy theory started going around that there are Republican saboteurs operating in Democratic campaigns, part of me would believe it.
